As of October 10, 2026, ChatGPT Plus in Vietnam is the same $20-a-month plan sold everywhere, and Vietnamese reports put the checkout amount at about 522,500 VND a month with VAT included. The 132,000 VND price you see in news and social posts is ChatGPT Go, a cheaper and separate plan. OpenAI's billing help lists VND as a supported web checkout currency, but the VND figures themselves come from local reporting, so the amount on your own checkout screen is final.

Pay through your own account in this order: ChatGPT web checkout with a card, then App Store or Google Play billing, then payment-decline troubleshooting. Shopee's free Plus months ended in November 2025; Shopee's current offers are for Go. Cheap "Vietnam" keys, shared logins and regional arbitrage are account risks, not discounts.

What the Vietnam prices actually mean

Three different numbers circulate for ChatGPT in Vietnam, and each one belongs to a different plan. OpenAI Help lists ChatGPT Plus at $20 per month, billed monthly, with no annual billing and no option to prepay several months. OpenAI's multi-currency billing help lists "VND (₫) Vietnam" among the currencies for ChatGPT web subscriptions and says prices are localized. A VND checkout is still the Plus plan, at a Vietnamese price; it does not turn Plus into the cheaper Go plan.

The VND amounts come from Vietnamese reporting rather than an OpenAI page. Vietnam.vn reported in October 2025 that ChatGPT Go costs 120,000 VND plus VAT, or 132,000 VND a month, and listed Plus at 522,500 VND a month. VnExpress reported the same Go launch in October 2025. A Vietnamese review site, sanphamtop1, quoted 522,500 VND for Plus from the Vietnamese pricing page on August 31, 2026. One community-maintained price table lists 499,000 VND for Plus instead, so treat these figures as reported checkout prices, not fixed list prices.

The public pricing page can show plans in USD, such as "20 US$ /tháng" on the Vietnamese version, before you reach checkout. The VND amount appears when you actually start the purchase in your account.

Pro used to be one $200 plan, which Vietnamese reports priced at 5,225,000 VND in 2025. OpenAI's Pro help page now lists three Pro levels at $100, $200 and $500 a month, and no VND figure for the new levels has been published.

Use official web checkout first

Sign in to your own account at chatgpt.com, open the upgrade page and read the plan name before you approve payment. The plan label matters more than the amount. If it says Go, you are buying the cheaper plan, not Plus.

For Vietnam, web checkout means paying by card. OpenAI's multi-currency help lists local wallets for some countries, such as UPI in India, GoPay in Indonesia, GCash in the Philippines, Pix in Brazil and Kakao Pay in Korea, but none for Vietnam. A domestic card that allows online international payments, or an international card, is what the web checkout expects.

The currency is fixed for the life of a subscription. An active plan keeps the currency it started in; to switch to VND later, you cancel and subscribe again after the current billing period ends. Keep the receipt with the plan name, currency, amount and renewal date, because local tax, bank rules and currency display can change.

Plus is billed monthly only. There is no ChatGPT Plus 1-year subscription and no way to pay several months in advance, so any "Plus 12 months" listing is not an OpenAI product. API usage is a different product as well: OpenAI Help says API usage is billed separately from ChatGPT plans, and API credits are charged in USD only.

Use App Store or Google Play when web payment is the problem

If the web checkout rejects your card, subscribing in the ChatGPT app through Apple or Google is the next legitimate option. OpenAI's billing help says subscriptions bought on iOS or Android are billed by Apple or Google in the local currency of the store. Local reports for the Go launch gave 132,000 VND on iOS and 120,000 VND plus VAT on Android, which adds up to the same amount.

Store billing is not automatically cheaper. The store sets the price and includes local tax, and renewals, refunds and cancellation all follow Apple's or Google's rules. Before you subscribe, check the plan name, the renewal amount, and which Apple ID or Google account will own the subscription.

If you already subscribed through an app store, manage or cancel it there. ChatGPT's web settings cannot cancel a plan that Apple or Google bills.

Fix payment failure before switching to a helper

A declined card does not mean ChatGPT Plus is unavailable in Vietnam. Common causes are a bank block on online or international payments, a card type the bank restricts, a billing address mismatch, a card limit, a temporary risk check, or too many attempts in a row. Work through these before you hand money or account access to anyone else.

1. Confirm the checkout says Plus, not Go.
2. Ask your bank or check its app to make sure online international or subscription payments are turned on for the card.
3. Match the billing address to what the bank has on file.
4. Retry once from a stable network and device instead of making repeated attempts.
5. If web checkout still fails, subscribe in the ChatGPT app through the App Store or Google Play.

Change one thing at a time. If you switch account, device, card and route at once, you may get past the block but you will not know what caused it.

Shopee promos in Vietnam: Plus offer ended, Go months now

Shopee's free ChatGPT Plus offer is history. From August 8, 2025, Shopee VIP members in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam could get three months of Plus free; Vietnamese guides reported that the window ran to November 8, 2025, capped at 150,000 sign-ups, and required Android, an international card and an account that never had Plus.

The offer then moved to Go. Sea, Shopee's parent company, announced on December 11, 2025 that from 12.12, Shopee VIP members in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam could get three months of ChatGPT Go as new subscribers, and that from January 2026 all Shopee users in those markets could get one free month of Go (Sea's announcement). Sea and OpenAI expanded the partnership again on June 22, 2026. Whether an offer is open for you today shows up in the ShopeeVIP partner benefits inside your own Shopee app; if nothing appears there, Shopee has no ChatGPT offer for your account right now.

OpenAI's help article on ChatGPT Plus promo codes sets the rules these partner offers follow:

• Codes come from partners, one per subscriber, and some are only for people who never had Plus.
• A payment method may be required, and most promos renew automatically at the standard price.
• Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal if you do not want to pay; free promo access can end as soon as you cancel.
• Reactivating later does not bring back the promo price.
• Codes cannot be sold or transferred, so a code bought from someone else can be refused.
• If checkout does not show the price you expected, do not pay.

A "Plus free 1 month" offer can also appear inside the app for some accounts. Treat third-party helpers as non-official fallback routes

Vietnam already has VND checkout, app-store billing and a cheaper Go plan, so most "cheap Plus" offers aimed at Vietnamese buyers are not cheaper than a legitimate local option, and many are not Plus at all.

A paid helper is only worth considering in a narrow case: web checkout and app-store billing both fail for you, you still need Plus rather than Go, and you accept that the helper is not OpenAI. An independent service such as fastgptplus.com states on its own site that it is not affiliated with OpenAI. Compare it as a payment workaround with its own terms, not as an official route or a safety guarantee.

Grey-market listings are a different matter. Game-key marketplaces sell "ChatGPT Plus 3 months trial key Vietnam", other sites resell promo codes, and some guides tell people outside Vietnam to buy through Vietnam or Shopee VIP to get a lower regional price. OpenAI says promo codes may not be duplicated, sold or transferred, and that accessing or offering access to its services outside supported countries may get the account blocked or suspended.
