How to Access Gemini 4 Argon for Free: Who Actually Qualifies
Gemini 4 Argon has no free plan as of November 6, 2026. A US student or Pixel 11 Pro offer, a family plan or Arena gets you in; otherwise pay per prompt.
On this page

As of November 6, 2026, Gemini 4 Argon has no free version anywhere Google offers it. The free Gemini app, Google AI Plus, the free plan in AI Studio and the free tier of the Gemini API all leave it out. You get Argon by holding a Google AI Pro plan ($19.99 a month in the US) or Ultra, which opens it in the Gemini app, AI Mode in Search, AI Studio and Antigravity, or by paying per token for the gemini-4-argon model with a Gemini API key.
So the real question is which account you already have. If you're a US college student, Google's 12-month Pro student trial includes Argon in the Gemini app and can be redeemed until December 31, 2026. If you're buying a Pixel 11 Pro, Pro XL or Pro Fold, the six months of Pro that come with it do the same, and if someone in your family pays for Pro or Ultra, they can share the plan with you. With none of those, an API key is the cheapest paid way in: a test run on November 6 averaged under two cents per everyday prompt at the default thinking setting, so Google's $5 minimum prepay covers about 292 prompts until the price doubles on December 1.
Two routes that circulate as free don't hold up. Google's $300 Cloud Free Trial credit explicitly can't pay for the Gemini API in AI Studio, and whether it covers Argon on Google Cloud's Agent Platform is unconfirmed, with users reporting both outcomes. The Jio bundle that a "FREE UNLIMITED" YouTube video promotes has closed.
Where Gemini 4 Argon opens, and which Google plan unlocks it
Gemini 4 Argon shows up in four Google consumer products, and in every one of them the free account is locked out while Google AI Pro and Ultra get in. Antigravity adds one extra condition for Pro, covered further down. The table reflects Google's US plan page, the AI Mode help page, the AI Studio plans page and the Antigravity models page, all as of November 6, 2026.
| Where you use it | Free Google account | Google AI Plus | Google AI Pro | Google AI Ultra |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini app (web and mobile) | No | No, Flash model only | Yes | Yes, higher access |
| AI Mode in Google Search | No | No | Yes, if you're 18 or older | Yes, if you're 18 or older |
| AI Studio web interface | No: "not available on the Free plan" | Not listed | Yes, higher daily quota | Yes, highest daily quota |
| Antigravity app, CLI and IDE extensions | No | No | Paid plan, or a trial on an eligible premium device | Yes |
Two more doors sit outside these consumer plans. The Gemini API sells Argon per token to any account with billing set up, and Gemini Enterprise Business edition, a separate work subscription, has offered Argon in its model selector since October 13, 2026.
The free Gemini app now runs on Auto: according to Google's model-access help page, most prompts go to Flash-Lite and some may go to Flash or Pro. Google's plan cards list "Gemini 4 Argon" as a separate item from the Pro model, and no Google page says a free account can pick Argon or be routed to it. Plus is moving the other way: Google has emailed subscribers that Plus loses its Pro models on November 13, 2026, and Argon was never part of it. Google AI Plus vs Pro: Pro Gets Argon, Plus Loses Pro Models covers whether the upgrade is worth it.
Google publishes no prompt count for Argon on Pro or Ultra. App limits are compute-based and refresh every five hours up to a weekly cap; Gemini 4 Argon Usage Limits: Pro vs Ultra, Resets, API Credits explains how to read your remaining share.
Free ways to get Gemini 4 Argon: who qualifies and the catch
Every zero-cost route to Argon works because someone else pays or because it's a trial with your card on file. None of them is a free plan, and each one fits a narrow group of people. These are the routes that actually reach Argon as of November 6, 2026:
| Route | Who qualifies | Status on November 6, 2026 | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google AI Pro student trial | US college students | Open; redeem by December 31, 2026, for 12 months | Payment method required at sign-up, then $19.99 a month; it counts as a trial, so Antigravity's Argon is off |
| Pixel 11 Pro, Pro XL or Pro Fold offer | Buyers of those phones | Open until October 31, 2027 | Six months of Pro that renew into a paid plan unless you cancel |
| Google One family sharing | Up to five members of a Pro or Ultra family group | Available | The plan manager pays; Antigravity limits are shared by the whole group; developer credits stay with the manager |
| Arena Direct mode | Anyone, no account | gemini-4-argon-high selectable while logged out | Your chats go to the model provider and may be published; daily limits aren't published |
| Antigravity program for scientists | Non-commercial researchers at universities, non-profit institutes or national labs | Rolling selection; 1,000 granted from over 25,000 applications by October 27 | Up to 10,000 places, six months, Antigravity only |
| Gemini Enterprise Business trial | Individuals and teams of up to 300 | 30-day trial open | Google doesn't say whether the trial includes Argon |
The student trial is the strongest offer for anyone who qualifies; eligibility and sign-up are covered in Google AI Pro Is Free for Eligible U.S. College Students for 12 Months. The Pixel offer differs in one place that matters to developers: Antigravity accepts Pro "on trial with eligible premium devices," and the Pixel 11 Pro offer is the most likely match, although Google doesn't name the devices.
Family sharing is free only for the member. The manager's plan covers the Gemini app and Antigravity for up to five other people, but Antigravity and Flow limits are pooled across the family, Google Developer Program credits go to the manager alone, and some benefits exclude people on Google One trial memberships. Arena is the only route with no account and no card, which also makes it the one place you shouldn't paste anything private, because its terms say conversations "will be disclosed to the relevant AI providers and may otherwise be disclosed publicly."
Several offers you may run into don't reach Argon. Outside the US, Google's student pages still give Google AI Plus for a year, not Pro, and Plus has no Argon. Jio's 18-month Google AI Pro bundle in India now shows "The Google Gemini Offer Is No Longer Available," so videos built on it, such as "Gemini 4 Argon FREE UNLIMITED! (Official Method)," describe a closed door. Google's logged-out US plan pages advertise no general one-month Pro trial; the only free offer they show is the student year, though an account-specific offer may still appear inside the app. A regular Google Workspace plan isn't Gemini Enterprise: Workspace's pricing page doesn't name Argon, and a Business Standard admin on Reddit reported that "AI Expanded Access" didn't add it.

Does the $300 Google Cloud credit give you free Argon? Not through AI Studio
No, if you plan to use it through AI Studio or a Gemini API key. Google's Free Trial page (updated October 27, 2026) says "The $300 credit can't pay for Gemini API in AI Studio costs" and that since March 2026 Gemini API usage is specifically excluded from the $300 trial. The same page also excludes partner models sold as managed APIs.
Argon also runs on Google Cloud's Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI), and there Google is silent: none of its pages says whether Free Trial credit can or can't pay for Argon. Its model card lists pay-as-you-go in the global, US and EU regions with no fixed quota, and free-trial accounts can't request quota increases. Express mode, the 90-day option that skips billing, doesn't include Argon at all. Users report both outcomes. A poster on r/googlecloud wrote on October 27 that Argon appeared in the console but returned a 404 after they signed up for the trial, while a commenter on r/SillyTavernAI said the credit "includes Argon as well."
The guides that present the credit as the free route, including maxpertise.net's October 15 post "Is Gemini 4 Argon free?" and the YouTube video "Use Gemini 4 Argon 100% FREE (NEW Method)," reason from Argon being on the platform rather than showing a call that was billed to the credit. The maxpertise steps also enable generativelanguage.googleapis.com, which is the Gemini API that Google excludes. If you're a new Google Cloud customer and want to try anyway, the trial needs a payment method and lasts 90 days. Send one small Argon request on Agent Platform and check whether the cost lands on your credit balance before you build anything around it.
Student or trial Pro in Antigravity: why Argon is missing
A student or promotional Pro plan gives you Argon in the Gemini app but not in Antigravity. The Antigravity models page marks Argon as available on Google AI Pro with the footnote "Available with paid Google AI Pro plans or on trial with eligible premium devices," and the Antigravity FAQ adds that some models "are not included in free trials." The US student offer is a trial plan, so it falls on the wrong side of that line, and so do other promotional Pro trials. The fix Google gives is to ask Google One support to end the trial and switch you to paid Pro, or to upgrade to Ultra.
Paid Pro has worked in Antigravity since October 16, 2026, so posts and the October 13 launch announcement that still say Antigravity's Argon is Ultra-only are out of date. Some users report that a free or promotional Pro still shows Argon in AI Studio, but Google's AI Studio plans page doesn't mention trials either way. If Antigravity shows a licence error instead of hiding the model, Antigravity #3501 "You Do Not Have a Valid License": 6 Causes walks through it.
Free Gemini 4 Argon chat sites: Arena works, most others sell credits
Outside Google, only Arena lets you pick Argon with no account and no payment. Most "free Argon chat" sites hand out a small daily credit allowance that a single long answer can use up, and one of them doesn't have Argon yet. As of November 6, 2026, according to each provider's own logged-out pages:
| App | Argon available? | Free allowance | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arena (arena.ai) | Yes, gemini-4-argon-high in Direct mode | No account needed; daily limit not published | Chats go to the model provider and may be published |
| Freebuff coding agent | Yes, for US accounts | One session a day | Marked "Leaving" since October 24; falls back to DeepSeek V4.1 Flash when capacity is down |
| Poe | Yes, official Gemini-4-Argon bot | Free daily points not shown on its public pages | 67 points per 1k input tokens, 334 per 1k output, 467 per web search (on by default) |
| 1min.AI | Yes | 15,000 credits per daily visit, no card | 20 credits per output token, so the bonus covers about 750 output tokens |
| Genspark | Yes, in AI Chat | Free daily credits not shown logged out | Argon is marked 2× in the credit picker |
| Felo | No, Argon "is in progress" | None for Argon | Not usable yet |
The Arena check took place on November 6, 2026: in a logged-out browser session, gemini-4-argon-high could be selected in Direct mode, and a terms dialog appears before the first message. No message was sent in that check, so whether replies come back without an account and how many you get per day remain open; Arena's code contains daily-limit messages but no published numbers.
Paid tools that include Argon don't open it on their free plans. GitHub Copilot offers it on Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise, not on Free, Student or Pro; Perplexity lists it for Max only as of October 27; and OpenRouter sells google/gemini-4-argon at $2 and $10 per million tokens with no :free variant. Whatever the app, a label that says Argon isn't proof, so if the tool shows the raw response, check that its model field reads gemini-4-argon.
What Gemini 4 Argon costs per prompt on the API, before and after December 1
If no free route fits, paying per prompt through the Gemini API is the cheapest way to use Argon a few times a week. Google's Gemini API pricing page charges $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens (thinking tokens count as output) through November 30, 2026, then $4 and $20 from December 1, and prepaid billing starts at $5.
To turn token prices into a per-prompt figure, four everyday prompts were sent to gemini-4-argon on November 6, 2026, between 00:39 and 00:47 UTC, through the LaoZhang API's Gemini-native endpoint. Each prompt ran once with the default settings and once with thinkingLevel: "high", and costs were recomputed at Google's list price from the token counts each reply reported.
Disclosure: laozhang.ai is our own service. Its prices are platform pricing, not an independent comparison.
| Prompt (input tokens) | Default: to Nov 30 → from Dec 1 | High thinking: to Nov 30 → from Dec 1 | Thinking tokens at high |
|---|---|---|---|
| Three-day family trip plan with a budget table (70) | $0.0192 → $0.0385 | $0.0393 → $0.0787 | 1,814 |
| Eight-bullet summary of a 3,624-word article (6,034) | $0.0187 → $0.0373 | $0.0472 → $0.0945 | 2,646 |
| Python duration parser with pytest tests (89) | $0.0242 → $0.0485 | $0.0670 → $0.1339 | 4,454 |
| Word puzzle on pen and notebook packs (93) | $0.0062 → $0.0124 | $0.0167 → $0.0333 | 953 |
| Average of the four | $0.0171 → $0.0342 | $0.0426 → $0.0851 | — |
Each cost is input tokens × $2 per million plus output and thinking tokens × $10 per million, doubled from December 1. The trip plan at default, for example, is 70 × $0.000002 + 1,910 × $0.00001 = $0.0192. At the default setting Argon reported zero thinking tokens on all four prompts, while high thinking added 953 to 4,454 tokens and made each prompt about 2 to 2.8 times as expensive; both puzzle answers were correct either way. These are single-turn prompts with one sample each. A long chat resends its history every turn, so later messages cost more than the first.
At the default setting, Google's $5 minimum prepay covers about 292 prompts like these through November 30 and about 146 after December 1 (117 and 58 with high thinking). A Pro subscriber who joins the Google Developer Program gets $10 a month of API credit, worth about 585 default prompts now and 292 after December 1. The credit needs a Prepay account and goes to the plan manager only. So if you only need Argon a few hundred times a month and don't need the app or Antigravity, the API costs less than Pro's $19.99; if you want Argon across the app, AI Mode, AI Studio and Antigravity, Pro gives you that and still hands you the $10 credit.

The same run showed why the model field matters. Of the 15 calls sent, 7 came back with modelVersion: 3.1-flash-lite-05-2026 instead of gemini-4-argon, the same gateway behavior seen on October 29, and only the 8 genuine Argon replies are counted above. The substitutes also came back faster (5.7–14.2 seconds against 11.5–82.6 seconds for Argon). Whichever reseller or app you use, read modelVersion in the response rather than trusting the label.
If you'd rather not set up Google billing, LaoZhang API lists gemini-4-argon at the same $2 input and $10 output per million tokens on pay-as-you-go, with no $5 prepay or Google billing account required; its price from December 1 isn't published yet. Full token rates for every Gemini model are in Gemini API Pricing 2026: Token Rates, Free Tier, and Key Cost, and if your tasks are routine, Gemini 4 Argon vs 3.8 Flash: Cost per Task and When to Switch shows when the cheaper Flash model, which does have a free tier, is enough.
How to start using Gemini 4 Argon in AI Studio or with an API key
With Pro or Ultra, the quickest place to try Argon outside the Gemini app is AI Studio's Playground, which runs on your subscription's daily quota instead of an API bill. Open Google AI Studio signed in with the account that holds the plan, pick Gemini 4 Argon in the model selector and send your prompt; if you don't have a plan yet, the Upgrade button in the left menu is where Google sells it.
When that daily quota runs out, Google's plans page points you to a Gemini API key, which is billed separately:
- Create a key on the AI Studio API keys page.
- Set up billing for the key's project; with Prepay, the minimum purchase is $5.
- If you're a Pro or Ultra plan manager, join the Google Developer Program to claim the monthly credit ($10 on Pro, $40 or $100 on Ultra), which needs a Prepay balance above $0.
- Call the model ID
gemini-4-argon. Leave thinking at its default unless the task needs it, since high thinking cost about 2 to 2.8 times as much in the test above.
curl "https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/models/gemini-4-argon:generateContent" \
-H "x-goog-api-key: $GEMINI_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"contents":[{"parts":[{"text":"Plan a three-day trip to Kyoto for a family of four."}]}]}'The response includes modelVersion and a usageMetadata block with prompt and output token counts, plus thoughtsTokenCount when the model thinks, which is all you need to recompute the cost of each call. If replies come back empty or stop early, Gemini 4 Argon API finish_reason: CONTINUATION and Empty Replies covers the fixes.
Gemini 4 Argon access: other questions
Can a free Gemini API key call Gemini 4 Argon?
No. As of November 6, 2026, Google's Gemini API pricing page lists Argon's free tier as "Not available," so a key without billing can't call it. Free keys still work with the Flash models, and Gemini API Free Tier 2026: Limits, Free Models, and Free API Keys lists which ones.
How do I get Gemini Advanced for free now?
Gemini Advanced was the old name for Google's paid Gemini tier, which is now sold as Google AI Pro, and Pro is the plan that includes Argon. So a free Gemini Advanced today means one of the no-cost Pro offers: as of November 6, 2026, Google's US pages show the student trial for US college students, and Pixel 11 Pro, Pro XL and Pro Fold buyers get Pro with the phone.
Is "Gemini 4 Argon High" a different model?
No. Names like gemini-4-argon-high on Arena label Argon run at its high thinking level, the same setting the API exposes as thinkingLevel: "high". The Gemini API model ID is simply gemini-4-argon, and Antigravity lets you choose Low, Medium or High thinking for it.
