# Is Nano Banana Pro Free? Gemini Plans, Flow Limits and the API

> Mostly no. As of October 10, 2026, free Gemini accounts get Nano Banana 2, Pro redo needs a paid plan, Flow's free access is disputed, and the API is paid.

Mostly no. As of October 10, 2026, a free Google account makes images with **Nano Banana 2** in the Gemini app, not Nano Banana Pro. Google's [Gemini Apps usage limits page](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/16275805?hl=en) shows "Redo images with Nano Banana Pro" only for Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra, and the official Nano Banana Pro API has no free tier.

Two places blur that answer. Google's [US Gemini subscriptions page](https://gemini.google/us/subscriptions/?hl=en) lists Flow on the free plan "including limited access to Nano Banana Pro," while Flow's own help page still says you need a Plus, Pro or Ultra subscription. Google also says Nano Banana Pro in Search's AI Mode is "available in select countries" and publishes no count for it. Neither is the "totally free in Flow" access that older forum threads describe.

Daily counts such as "20 images a day without a plan" still circulate, but Google's current limits page gives no daily image number for any plan. Gemini limits are compute-based: they refresh every 5 hours until you reach a weekly cap, and paid plans multiply the standard limit.

## Quick route board: Nano Banana Pro on every Google plan

Here is what each option gives you as of October 10, 2026. Prices are Google's US prices.

| Plan or product | Nano Banana Pro access | Limit | Largest image you get | Visible watermark |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free Google account ($0) | Not in the Gemini app: images use Nano Banana 2, and Redo with Pro isn't offered | Standard compute limit, refreshes every 5 hours, weekly cap | 1K download | A setting, except in India, South Korea and Vietnam; SynthID is always added |
| Google AI Plus ($4.99/month) | Redo with Pro in the Gemini app, plus Nano Banana 2.1 | 2x the standard limit | 2K download | Same setting, except in India, South Korea and Vietnam |
| Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) | Redo with Pro, plus Nano Banana 2.1 | 4x the standard limit | 2K download | Same as Plus |
| Google AI Ultra ($99.99 or $199.99/month) | Redo with Pro, plus Nano Banana 2.1 | 5x or 20x the AI Pro limit, depending on the subscription | 2K download | Setting available everywhere, including India, South Korea and Vietnam |
| Google Flow | Conflicting: the plan page lists limited free access, Flow's help page requires Plus, Pro or Ultra | 200 / 1,000 / 10,000–25,000 monthly credits on paid plans; no published daily image cap | 4K upscaling reportedly needs Ultra | SynthID always; visible mark is a toggle, automatic in India, South Korea and Vietnam |
| Gemini API (`gemini-3-pro-image`) | Paid only, no free tier | Per-project rate limits; Prepay billing with a $5 minimum | 4K at $0.24 per image | Not stated on the pricing page |

A few things in that table matter more than the rest. "Redo with Pro" is the only way to get Nano Banana Pro inside the Gemini app, so even paid accounts start each image with Nano Banana 2 and then redo it. The 1K-versus-2K download rule comes from the [Gemini image generation help page](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/14286560?hl=en). Google's marketing page for Gemini images says the free Nano Banana 2 offers "2K resolution," but the help page is the one that describes downloads. No Google page offers 4K downloads in the Gemini app on any plan.

## What Google officially gives you in Gemini and AI Mode

In the Gemini app, a free account gets Nano Banana 2 for both generating and editing images, and that's the whole free image offer. You must be signed in. Google sets the age at 13 or older (or your country's minimum) to generate images and 18 or older to edit them, while its image marketing page footer simply says "18+."

Which image model runs depends on the chat model you pick and your plan:

- **Flash-Lite selected:** Nano Banana 2 Lite, which Google describes as optimized for speed and not designed for multiple reference images or repeated edits.
- **Flash or Pro selected:** Nano Banana 2. Choosing the Pro chat model doesn't switch images to Nano Banana Pro.
- **Any Google AI plan:** Nano Banana 2.1, which Google calls its best image generation and editing model, plus "Redo with Pro" on an image you've already generated.

The Pro redo shares the same pool as your normal images. Google's help page says: "If you reach your daily quota of Nano Banana 2 images, you can't redo any additional images with Nano Banana Pro." That page still uses the word "daily," while the limits page describes 5-hour refreshes and a weekly cap. In practice, once you hit your Nano Banana 2 limit, Pro redos stop too.

Every image from Gemini carries an invisible SynthID watermark and Content Credentials. The visible watermark is a setting under **Settings → Media Watermark**, according to Google's [Gemini watermark help page](https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/17405358?hl=en). Turning it off doesn't remove SynthID. In India, South Korea and Vietnam, only AI Ultra subscribers see that setting.

AI Mode in Google Search is the one place where Nano Banana Pro may show up without a plan. You pick the **Create image** tool in AI Mode and add a prompt. Google launched image creation there in the US and India in English, then added Canada. The subscriptions page footnote says "Nano Banana Pro … in AI Mode are available in select countries," and Google AI Plus adds "more access to Nano Banana in Search." As of early October 2026, free Nano Banana Pro in AI Mode appeared only for adults in the US using English. Google publishes no country list or image count for it, so treat it as a bonus that may not appear for your account.

There's no official way to make Nano Banana images without a Google sign-in. If that's what you're after, [Nano Banana Free No Sign Up: Which Routes Actually Work Today?](https://blog.laozhang.ai/en/posts/nano-banana-free-no-sign-up) explains what the "no sign-up" sites actually are.

## What `Gemini Pro` and the paid plan ladder actually change

"Gemini Pro" usually means one of two things: the Google AI Pro plan or the Pro chat model in the Gemini picker. Only the plan changes your image access. Selecting the Pro chat model on a free account still produces Nano Banana 2 images.

Here is what each paid tier adds for images, per Google's US subscriptions page and limits page:

| Plan (US price) | Image extras | Usage limit | Flow credits per month |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Google AI Plus ($4.99/month) | Redo with Pro, Nano Banana 2.1, 2K downloads, more Nano Banana in Search | 2x standard | 200 |
| Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) | Same image extras | 4x standard | 1,000 |
| Google AI Ultra ($99.99 or $199.99/month) | Same image extras | 5x or 20x the AI Pro limit | 10,000 or 25,000 |

Plus is the cheapest way to get Nano Banana Pro in the Gemini app. Higher tiers don't unlock a different Pro. They raise the compute limit that both Nano Banana 2 and the Pro redo draw from, and they add Flow credits. Google also notes that "more advanced models and higher thinking levels consume more of your usage," so heavy Pro redos and long Pro-model chats can use up the same allowance faster.

Google AI plans are for ages 18 and up. To see where you stand, open **Settings → Usage Limits** in Gemini. Google doesn't translate the 2x or 4x multipliers into image counts, and it warns that limits "may change without notice."

If your real question is cost per usable image across plans and the API, [How Much Is Nano Banana Pro? API, Plan, and Usable-Image Cost](https://blog.laozhang.ai/en/posts/nano-banana-pro-pricing) works through those numbers. On the API, a Pro image costs $0.134 at 1K or 2K, so the $4.99 Plus fee equals about 37 API images ($4.99 ÷ $0.134 ≈ 37). Plus is the better deal if you'd redo more than that each month and 2K is enough.

## Why Flow is not the same as `free in Gemini`

Google's own pages disagree about Flow. The [US subscriptions page](https://gemini.google/us/subscriptions/?hl=en) lists "Google Flow — Access to our AI creative studio … including limited access to Nano Banana Pro" under the $0 plan. The [Google Flow help page](https://support.google.com/labs/answer/16353333?hl=en) says that to use Flow you must be 18 or older, be in a supported region, and "be subscribed to Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, or Google AI Ultra."

Both pages agree on the rest. You need a Google account, you must be 18 or older, and Flow only works in supported regions. The help page adds that "VPNs will not enable access in unsupported regions." If you sign in with a free account and Flow lets you in, you're on the plan page's "limited access." If it doesn't, the help page's subscription rule applies.

On paid plans, Flow runs on monthly AI credits: 200 on Plus, 1,000 on Pro, and 10,000 or 25,000 on the two Ultra levels. Google Workspace plans get "50 daily credits." Credits are the meter, so "included with my plan" doesn't mean free. Every Flow output from Veo, Omni or Nano Banana carries an invisible SynthID watermark. The visible mark is a toggle, applied automatically in India, South Korea and Vietnam.

*This chart predates the October 10, 2026 update. The API model ID is now gemini-3-pro-image, and Google's plan page now lists limited free Flow access. The text on this page is current.*

### Google Flow Nano Banana Pro daily limit: no published number

Google doesn't publish a daily Nano Banana Pro limit for Flow on any plan. The help page only says Google "may rate-limit the number of generations you can make, particularly for zero-credit models." The 50 daily credits for Workspace plans are the only daily figure Google gives for Flow.

Figures like "150 free credits a month" or "2 free Pro images a day" come from third-party sites, not Google. 4K upscaling in Flow is reported to need Ultra, but Flow's pricing page sits behind a sign-in and Google hasn't said so publicly. If you hit a wall in Flow, it's either your credit balance or Google's unpublished rate limit.

## Why the official Pro API is a different paid contract

The API has no free option at all. On the [Gemini API pricing page](https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/pricing), the free tier for `gemini-3-pro-image` is "Not available," and the same is true for every image model Google sells through the API. Standard prices are $0.134 per 1K or 2K image and $0.24 per 4K image. Batch and Flex cost half: $0.067 per 1K or 2K image and $0.12 per 4K image.

If you followed an older guide, check the model ID. The `gemini-3-pro-image-preview` ID shut down on June 25, 2026. The current `gemini-3-pro-image` ID has no announced shutdown date.

Creating an API key is free, but image calls need billing. The Gemini API now uses Prepay with a $5 minimum. Three "free" options don't work for Nano Banana Pro on the API:

- **Google AI Studio:** usage "remains free of charge unless users link a paid API key for access to paid features," per Google's [Gemini API billing page](https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/billing). Nano Banana Pro is one of those paid features. As of October 5, 2026, the Playground told accounts with neither a plan nor a key: "Nano Banana 2 is only available in the Playground via a Google AI Plan or an API key."
- **Google AI Pro or Ultra:** these plans raise quotas and unlock "premium models like Gemini Pro, Nano Banana" inside the AI Studio web interface only. Google states that direct use of the Gemini API "is billed and managed separately."
- **The $300 Google Cloud trial:** since March 2026 it can't pay for the Gemini API or AI Studio. Google's free-program page doesn't exclude Gemini models on Vertex AI, so the trial may cover Nano Banana Pro there, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Rate limits are set per project and per billing tier, and Google points you to AI Studio to see your active limits instead of publishing one table. Mainland China, Hong Kong and Russia aren't on the Gemini API's list of available regions.

## Can you get Nano Banana Pro 4K for free?

No. Google offers no free Nano Banana Pro 4K, and no official option is unlimited. The Gemini app stops at 2K downloads on paid plans and 1K on free accounts. In Flow, 4K upscaling reportedly needs Ultra. On the API, a 4K Pro image costs $0.24, or $0.12 through Batch or Flex. That half-price rate is the cheapest official way to get Pro at 4K.

If a different model is acceptable, Nano Banana 2.1 costs $0.113 per 4K image at standard rates and $0.0567 through Batch. That's cheaper, but it isn't Nano Banana Pro.

Sites promising "free unlimited" Nano Banana Pro 4K aren't Google products. As of October 10, 2026, several sites selling themselves as free Nano Banana generators advertised "no sign-up" and "unlimited generations" while showing logins, credit balances and upgrade offers on the same site. There's no way to confirm from outside which model those sites actually run. [Nano Banana Pro 4K Generator: What Free Credits Actually Buy](https://blog.laozhang.ai/en/posts/nano-banana-pro-4k-ai-image-generator) covers what their free credits get you. For exact 4K sizes and watermark rules, see [Nano Banana Pro 4K: Exact Sizes, $0.24 Cost and Watermark Rules](https://blog.laozhang.ai/en/posts/nano-banana-pro-4k-guide).

## Best route for each use case

**You want free images from Google and don't need Pro specifically.** Use the Gemini app on a free account. You get Nano Banana 2 at 1K within the standard limit. [Can You Use Nano Banana for Free? Google's No-Cost Options](https://blog.laozhang.ai/en/posts/is-nano-banana-free) covers every free Nano Banana option.

**You want Nano Banana Pro in the Gemini app.** Google AI Plus at $4.99/month (US) is the cheapest plan with Redo with Pro, Nano Banana 2.1 and 2K downloads. [How to Use Nano Banana Pro](https://blog.laozhang.ai/en/posts/nano-banana-pro-how-to-use) walks through the redo step.

**You keep running into limits.** Google AI Pro gives 4x the standard limit and Ultra goes higher. None of these plans publishes a daily image count, so watch **Settings → Usage Limits**.

**You want Flow.** Try signing in with a free account if you're 18 or older in a supported region. Google's plan page says you may get limited access. If Flow needs real volume, you'll need a paid plan's credits.

**You need code, automation or 4K.** Use the Gemini API with `gemini-3-pro-image`. It's paid from the first image, and Batch or Flex halves the price when you can wait for results.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is Nano Banana Pro free in Gemini right now?

No. As of October 10, 2026, free Gemini accounts make images with Nano Banana 2. Google lists "Redo images with Nano Banana Pro" only for Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra. The one possible exception is AI Mode in Google Search, where Google says Nano Banana Pro is available in select countries.

### Does Flow give me Nano Banana Pro for free?

Google's pages disagree. The US subscriptions page lists "limited access to Nano Banana Pro" in Flow on the free plan. Flow's help page says you need Plus, Pro or Ultra. Both require a Google sign-in, age 18 or older and a supported region, and Google publishes no daily Pro limit for Flow.

### What does `Gemini Pro` change today?

The Google AI Pro plan ($19.99/month in the US) adds Redo with Pro, Nano Banana 2.1, 2K downloads, 4x the standard Gemini usage limit and 1,000 monthly Flow credits. Picking the Pro chat model on a free account doesn't change the image model, which stays Nano Banana 2.

### Is the official Nano Banana Pro API (`gemini-3-pro-image`) free?

No. Google's pricing page marks the free tier "Not available" for every image model. Nano Banana Pro costs $0.134 per 1K or 2K image and $0.24 per 4K image, or half that through Batch or Flex. The old `gemini-3-pro-image-preview` ID shut down on June 25, 2026.

### Do current limits stay fixed?

No. Google says Gemini limits "may change without notice," and it publishes multipliers instead of image counts. AI Mode and Flow access also depend on country, age and language. Check **Settings → Usage Limits** in Gemini for your own account.
